A personalised pet blanket gives the artwork plenty of space, which makes the quality of the reference photo particularly important. You do not need professional photography, but you do need a photograph that clearly shows the features an artist must preserve.
Open the original photograph and zoom in. The eyes, nose, ears and important coat markings should remain reasonably clear. If the face turns into a collection of pixels immediately, choose another image.
Window light or outdoor shade can reveal fur colour and facial detail without creating severe shadows. Very dark photos may hide markings, while harsh direct sunlight can wash out pale coats.
A photo taken from high above can make the head look disproportionately large and hide the chest or neck. A front-facing or gently angled photograph taken nearer the pet’s eye level usually gives a more useful portrait reference.
If your pet is recognisable by one floppy ear, a white blaze, unusual eyes or a particular collar, choose a photo where that feature can actually be seen. Personalised artwork is built from details, not telepathy.
The technically best image is not always the most representative. If one photograph captures the expression everyone associates with your pet and is still clear enough to work from, it may be a better choice than a sterile but perfectly sharp alternative.
Repeatedly saved screenshots and images passed through messaging apps can lose detail. If you have access to the original camera or phone photo, upload that version.
Paw & Glory’s current blanket collection includes both single-pet and multi-subject designs. For two pets, use clear photographs of each animal. They do not have to be standing together in one image. Products such as the Gothic Farm Couple custom pet blanket are designed around two subjects, while options such as the Minimalist custom pet blanket can keep the focus simple.
The current Paw & Glory blanket range includes an artwork proof before production with unlimited edits before approval. Review the proof carefully for likeness, markings and expression. The point of the approval stage is to catch concerns before production, not after a blanket has acquired diplomatic immunity in the spare room.
A good pet photo does not need to be glamorous. It needs to be clear, well lit and recognisable. Give the artwork useful information and the finished portrait has a much better chance of feeling unmistakably like your pet.
