A favourite pet photograph already has emotional value. Turning it into wall art is mostly about deciding what to preserve, what to simplify and how the finished piece should fit the room.
Use the highest-resolution version you can find rather than a screenshot or compressed copy from social media. Clear eyes, visible markings and good light matter more than an elaborate background.
A straight photographic print preserves the original moment exactly. A custom portrait can remove distractions, change the background or reinterpret the photo in a different artistic style. Neither is automatically better; they serve different purposes.
Portrait-oriented crops often suit head-and-shoulders artwork, while wider images can work well when the setting matters. Avoid trimming ears, tails or distinctive features unintentionally.
Measure the wall and consider surrounding furniture. A small print can disappear above a large sofa, while oversized artwork may overwhelm a narrow hallway.
If converting the photo into custom art, a changed background can help the pet stand out and connect the artwork with the room. Choose colours that complement rather than compete with the coat.
A playful everyday photo may make cheerful family artwork. A quieter image can work better for a memorial portrait. The best choice is the one that preserves what you actually value about the photograph.
Paw & Glory creates custom pet portraits from customer photos, allowing favourite images to be transformed into personalised artwork for the home.
